In November 2007, the THPRD Board of Directors accepted the recommendations of a special task force to enhance the Family Assistance Program. The task force was composed of community members and THPRD staff.
Task Force Areas of Focus
- Application/Approval Process
- Awareness of the Family Assistance Program in the Community
- Amount of Family Assistance to Be Awarded
Recommendations
- Amount of Family Assistance – change from $400 per year per household to $200 per person per year
- Budget for the program based on use by an estimated 1,200-1,500 patrons (allows for 20-40 percent increase).
- Application:
- Apply one time per year rather than quarterly
- Simplify application form
- Verify income to determine eligibility
- Gift Card – As of Summer 2008, patrons approved for Family Assistance will receive a THPRD gift card that will be tied to their THPRD account. The full amount of Family Assistance for the year will be allocated to the card. Patrons may use the card to register for THPRD classes until all available funds are used.
