Summer League
Looking for some competitive tennis in the summer? Want to meet other players at your level of play? Looking for a fun social tennis event? Check out the Tualatin Hills Summer Adult Tennis League!
Teams are formed beginning in May. Players who would like to participate may sign up at the Tennis Center front desk. League play commences in late June and runs through the middle of August. Expect an average of two evening matches per team Monday through Thursday each week. Friday evenings are the makeup days for rained-out matches. Each team match consists of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and two mixed matches. Eight-game pro sets are played.
There are multiple divisions of play: one for players at a 2.5 level and below; one for players at the 3.0-3.5 level; and the other for players 3.6 and above. In Summer 2008, 23 teams participated in the league. At the conclusion of regular season in August, the final standings determine the draw position for the September playoff event to determine the championship team in each of the divisions. The playoff is conducted in early September along with a social barbecue.
Both in-district and out-of district players are welcome to participate in the Adult Summer League. Since this league is a THPRD-sponsored event, all in-district participants must have a current THPRD Residency Card valid through September of the participating year. Out-of-district residents must pay the quarterly assessment fee through September of the participating year.
USTA League
USTA league play is available to increase players' competitive match experience. Teams are captained by one or more players and matches are played against other local clubs both at home and away. League levels range from 2.5 and up. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles leagues for players 18 and above. We also offer special leagues for seniors and "super seniors." Matches are held home and away Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The USTA men's league and women's league teams play from February to June.
The USTA Fall Mixed League we host plays from September to November.
City League
This is a program specially designed for women's teams to enjoy match play with other clubs in the metropolitan area. Matches are Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the division. Team practices with THPRD coaching are held one day per week. City League runs in the fall, winter and spring and is available only through our THPRD city league program and the independent city league organization.
USTA Jr. Team Tennis League
18-and-under divisions run January-March, June-August, and September-December.
12-and-under and 14-and-under divisions runs March-May, June-August, and September-December.
Tennis is not necessarily a solo sport for junior players! Check out Junior Team Tennis for players 9 to 18 years of age. Junior Team Tennis provides an avenue in which players compete against other club’s teams across the greater Portland area. Team matches consist of boy's singles, girl's singles, boy's doubles, girl's doubles and mixed doubles. Eight-game pro sets are played. The team score is determined by the total number of games won, not individual matches. Every game counts!
Juniors may play on teams in one of five divisions: 12-and-under Intermediate, 14-and-under Intermediate, 14-and-under Advanced, 18-and- under Intermediate and 18-and-under Advanced. Players should have completed at least a minimum of Level 3 classes at THPRD and be able to serve and keep score.Rookie-level tournament players should register for the Intermediate level. However, players in the Intermediate level do not need tournament experience to participate. Advanced-level players are usually participants in our Junior Academy Program and/or are currently competing at the Challenger level in tournaments.
The Junior Team Tennis League is conducted in four seasons year-round. For more information, please contact Katherine Lomartire, league director, at katherine.lomartire@comcast.net or Mark Toppe, community tennis coordinator at the PNW USTA office, at mtoppe@pnw.usta.com.
