Board Approves Bond Measure Proposal

In a unanimous vote, the THPRD Board of Directors on June 23 approved a staff proposal to place a $100 million bond measure on the ballot this November.

It will be the first THPRD bond measure since a successful effort in 1994 that funded, among numerous projects, the Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center and the Tualatin Hills Nature Park Interpretive Center.

If it passes, the measure will provide money for dozens of projects focused on parks, trails, natural area preservation, athletic fields, facility expansions, and replacement and rehabilitation of aging facilities. The proposed projects will be geographically distributed throughout the district to benefit the maximum number of patrons.

The five-member board's decision capped a thorough exploratory process that started in January with a scientific telephone survey that showed strong support for a bond measure among district residents. In that poll, more than 60 percent of those polled favored a $100 million bond.
